One of the great values that Çanakkale has cultivated is Teoman Alpay, known as the composer of love songs.

WHO IS TEOMAN ALPAY?

Teoman Alpay was born in Çanakkale in 1932. He spent his childhood in Çanakkale. He completed primary and secondary school in Çanakkale and high school in Balıkesir. Later, he entered the Ankara State Conservatory Composition Department and graduated in 1959. While working as a civil servant in Ankara, he passed the oud exam held by Ankara Radio and joined the radio's instrument artists.The artist from Çanakkale , who has an innate talent, started to give his first compositions at a young age. His compositions started to be played and sung on the radios. He made great progress in a short time and became the Chief of Turkish Music Broadcasts. Turkey was recognized as the youngest chef. He was the manager of Erzurum Radio for a period. 

Teoman Alpay went from Ankara to Istanbul in 1965 and settled in the house of lyricist and actor Aysel Gürel. They had both their tenants and their spiritual father. They lived together for many years.

MANY OF HİS WORKS RECEİVED AWARDS

The famous composer born in Çanakkale lived his most productive time during this period. He received awards with his compositions titled “Nasıl Geçti Habersiz” , “Gökyüzünde Yalnız Gezen Yıldızlar” , “At Kadehi Elinden” , “Kadın”, “Kalbimi Kıra Kıra”. Awards were awarded in Milliyet's Top 10 Most Popular Songs of the Year survey.

Teoman Alpay quickly became famous for his success. His compositions were read in Yeşilçam films. The composition "Buruk Acı" written by himself, whose lyrics belong to Türkan Şoray, was both voiced in the film and gave its name to the film in which Şoray starred.

SAMANYOLU

His greatest known work was the Samanyolu. The song of the Samanyolu, famous for Berkant, is popularly known as the composition of Metin Bükey, but its lyrics and composition belong to Teoman Alpay. The work, which was released as his own composition by Metin Bükey, was confirmed to belong to the artist born in Çanakkale as a result of the court opened later.

 

OWNER OF UNFORGETTABLE COMPOSITIONS

Leaving close composing memorable works by 200 artists, Turkey Musical Work Owners of the Professional Association is a founding member. The international music organizations in France (SACEM) was the only member from Turkey. His works became the most popular songs of the time. The composer's songs still remain popular today. Teoman Alpay's compositions were played abroad, especially in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, crossing the borders of the country.

GOLD PLATE AWARD

Teoman Alpay produced very ambitious works. In Muazzez Ersoy's cassette "Nostalji", his works "Kalbimi Kıra Kıra" and "Kıskanırım Seni Ben" were included. These works have also been played frequently on radio stations and television channels. The composer's piece titled “Kalbimi Kıra Kıra” was selected as the most admired piece by Istanbul FM listeners. On November 25, 1997, the artist was given a gold plaque at the AKM.

HE WAS İN ÇANAKKALE İN THE LAST YEARS OF HİS LİFE

When his father died, he came to his mother in 1977 and settled in Çanakkale. He retired from Çanakkale State Hydraulic Works. He continued his composition studies in Çanakkale and made songs for the market. The famous artist, who became ill after a while and was taken to the hospital, was visited by many people including State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdüllâtif Şener and Çanakkale Governor Süleyman Kamçı during his hospitalization.

FUNERAL CEREMONY WAS HELD İN ÇANAKKALE

He died on February 11, 2005, in Çanakkale, which he has always loved and proud of. He was buried in Çanakkale City Cemetery on February 14, with the flood of love of the people of Çanakkale, accompanied by the song "Samanyolu" played from the municipal speakers.

A STREET IN ÇANAKKALE IS NAMED TEOMAN ALPAY

Teoman Alpay's name was given to a street in Esenler District with the decision of Çanakkale Municipal Council dated 09.06.1992 and numbered 567 as a sign of love and respect towards the artist.
